A group of us ate at a resturant called Dans Le Noir on Saturday night, where you eat in the pitch dark. I mean dark. It's really hard to explain how dark it was. You literally couldn't see your hand, even with it touching your nose.
It works by you choosing one of four surprise menus (i.e. you don't know what you are going to get) and you can have two (starter and main or main and dessert) or three courses:
1. Anything goes.
2. Meat & Veg.
3. Fish & Veg.
4. Vegetarian.
You also order drinks before going into the dark room. Your blind waiter/waitress then leads you in a chain (i.e. right arm on right shoulder) into the dark room and sits you down one by one. You are then served you drinks and food. You have to do everything in the dark, from pouring the water to eating your food.
I found that you kind of got a bit of a headache behind your eyes as they were searching so hard for a bit of light and there just wasn't any. I also found the noise a bit over powering and as the dinner went on it felt like everyone at the table was getting further and further away. One thing that surprised me was how quickly you started to remember where you had put things. At the start you had to feel with your hands, but after a while you just knew exactly where you had put things.
An experience I would highly recommend.
